Process of Magazine Making

 in the process of making my magazine i started with contents ,i research a magazine that inspired certain features of the contents page. such as the banner and the date. i wanted to put a group in magazine to add more variety to the magazine .

the process of making the front cover was longer because of the first draft of the making because og the picture that was taken so i had to do another photography session and produce a new front covers with new ideas 

at this point i only  had the idea of one double page spread  but i started working on the content of the magazine  and i wanted to add a quotation made by the artist this was inspired by my case study .

Draft Front Cover

This Is  cover was meant to me my final cover however the image of the front cover did not look as clear as it should have looked like therefore this process of the making my actual front cover is now my near to close front cover draft.  These are the features i have come up with so far however they is a lot more i wanted to add to this magazine such as cover line which revel most likely an exclusive interview with an upcoming star.
 i would add more cover lines and a small features of what the magazine will feature . The magazine will be going for 2.99 and this will be shown above the bar code along the date of the issue. my main colour scheme is grey and black and baby pink, just to keep the magazine neutral because contemporary is a new form of RnB and future for RnB and i feel as though colour represent the this perfectly.

camera introduction

Before the processes of making my magazine, we had to get used the camera in order to make sure that we got the good pictures that we needed to get really good and professional looking pictures.
The camera we used was the Nikon D7100 , this was the first time i was using a professional camera and the focus of the camera was unlike what i have seen and it look really professional and the quality was really good and since the camera has 24.1 megapixels. .

We learnt about the light boxes used in photoshoot to make sure  the photos look like quality photos 

there is 1 ( which is the lowest form of light ) to  6 ( the highest point of lighting)

but for our photos we used 3 point lighting because any higher with look too bright and 1 would be too low. We had to keep the lighting 4ft or 5ft away depending on what type of pictures i want to take i could have just left everything the same.

1)When did you fall in love with RNB?

 I remember when I was like 6 and my mother played Smokey Robinson –cursing and her and my father used to hold each other and rock  to the sounds of the good ol’ days (laughs) , I fell in love and I thought that RnB was that music that brings people together  and express your cool individual style.

2) How is your music reflected in your style?

Well, my type of style is plain colours such as black, white and grey (chuckles) I don’t wear much colour because that’s just me but I love being cool and standing out , I feel like RnB is a cool music genre in fact the coolest because that’s my forte (laughs) I feel like that’s how my music  is reflected in my style , really.

3) What should we expect from your new album “authentic”?

YESSS, HE NEW ABLUM!!, first of all I must say I’m super excited for my album to come out after forever but you can expect realness and stories to be told about the making of me basically , yet the hip sounds as I combined nb with  little bit of hip hop .

4) Out of Aaliyah, R-Kelly and the WEEKND, who would you, CALL, MISS OR DISS ?

I think I would call Aaliyah , Miss Weeknd and Diss R-Kelly , sorry r kelly , i just went by more of my style *chunkles*

5) What advice would you give to any up coming RnB?
My advice for up coming artists stay true to yourself and your work and never let others tell you that you'l never make it becuase this industry is hard but as ong as you aredeterimnated you will be able to make it 

6) Did you always want to be an musician?

Yes I always wanted to be a musician because music has always been apart of my life and i feel as though music helped me to get through so much and it's an expression of who i am . 

7) Whats your daily inspiration and why?

i think that my daily inspiration is life in general , theres so many aspirations in the world and i feel like its makes you want to be whatever you wan to be

8) where do you think you’ll be in the next 10 years
i think that in the next 10 years i would like be recognised for my work and get further , hopefully win a couple of awards,and be able to present my music to the world .

9)when are you coming to the USA
hopefully,ill be coming to the USA soon after my album release and i begin a tour . then when i explore i think USA if most likely to be on my list.

Magazine research

The magazines that i used to help me evaluate Vibe magazine and Q magazine , vibes magazine is more linked to my genre however these magazine help me construct a version-of how I wanted my front cover to and give me guidelines of how a real music magazine front cover should look like.

This helped have an idea of how my placing should be and the type of content that should be going onto the front cover. Something interesting that the reader can pick up and get involve ..
From this research i have noticed that the cover star has to be looking forward and be engaged with the readers.

masterhead ideas

These master heads were made on illustrator and these are drafts of cover , so they might not nessacery be used but because my magazine is a RnB magazine I wanted the magazine masterhead to be a bit funky and playful however I feel as though these masterheads look more like a cartoon like than I expected  . however I shall be going back onto illustrator and consider the simplicity and edginess to my magazine

Starting my proposal

TARGET AUDIENCE COMPLETE STATMENT :  On the basis on feedback the change to My target audience is 18-21 year olds mainly aimed at both genres and the magazine should reflect that even though in my case studies such as XXL magazine the average age from the magazine is 27 and the percentage of the male readers is 78% , I still want to keep my magazine target audience the same.

RnB magazine media kit

This is another one of the magazine i looked at to collect data for my magazine just to 

give me more than one view on a magazine. that is exactly my genre so that may mean that

i have a clearer view of what on statics. This is a digital magazine, the is a good comparison to the xxl magazine that has print and digital version of the magazine 

This summaries the purpose of the magazine and what the expected impact is on the reader from the magazine and from this mission statement is that as fashion still takes a part is music magazines and that my magazine needs to reflect RnB and the meaning of RnB well.

RnB magazine is a digatil magazine however it's published by an upcoming publishing company Viral music media . This type of publisher is different because it allows the magazine to independent , they are meant buy they subscription to create the magazine,they have over 1500 deals , they've worked with artist just like AJ crimson and K-major .

In comparison to XXl magazine the gender of this magazine is mainly female rather than male .with the statics around age group is roughly the same however from this i can see that this magazine appeals more to people around the age 30-35.This is not too far of xxl magazine however this made me see that maybe having a older generation as my target audience might be better for my magazine . Just as XXL magazine , this magazine is more popular amongst a black audience. 

the 72% that are college educated and the 82% that are employed suggest that the magazine is popular  within a older audience .

                             

XXL media kit

 This is XXL media kit , that i have been looking at the see and research about magazines and their audience and selling ponits . This media kit is the most recent media kit i could find however this can vary compare to the media if found today.

This is just an intro to the media kit , telling us just a little bit about the magazine.Even tough the magazine is a hip hop magazine , Hip hop and RnB are close linked and can be seen as sub genres to each other. This is why i research this magazine because it was still appropriate to my music genre.  This page continues to talk about the page views and it looks like xxl magazine have a wide fan base and is coming to grow in it's fan base 

By this conclusion about the readers ,i can see that  the readers that read this genre type of magazine is mostly a male audience rather than women and the average age of the reader is 27 , this number is low in terms of age  however we can see that the magazine attracts a maturer audience  rather a younger audience which may be more into the digital side of magazine .

Harry publication was the first publisher to publish xxl magazine , this based in new york and came around during the 70's and the publish all sorts of books and magazine both fiction and non-fiction. however in 2014 that all changed when town square toke the xxl from Harry publication, Townsquare is based in greenwich in america and it was founded in 1997. This is mass media company that not only does magazines but radio and a lot of digital media   

further more on to more specific stats , this cover race, gender and a range of ages involved. As i looked at the magazine stats can conclude that the women readers are lower than a half . This indicates that this magazine may be aimed at men mostly however i don't want my magazine to appeal to many one gender . The ethnicity of the magazine is really popular among African/Americans however the percentage for the other ethnicity  are below a half . this indicates which type of audience my magazine will possibility appeal to . And including the age group of the readers shows me that readers in there mid ages are more likely to read a magazine rather than a younger or older audience .

College Magazine evalution

 This is my college magazine I used a 2 colour scheme: red and yellow for the front cover and contents page because I felt that these colour represent desire and goodness and I felt by putting this into an educational based magazine will be a good connation of which education is about. I chose a front cover where the student is looking straight to make sure the student is directly addressing the audience, keeping the audience engaged with the magazine.  i think that the improvements that could be made with my front cover is that less should be happening in the background because it's clashes with my colour scheme therefore it's harder that way to read the text .  They could have been more interesting  column happening on the magazine to catch readers eye. 

With the contents page , I feel as though i had good use of images  on my contents , they  present a positive and good outlook onto the college, The contents page cover the magazine and it's strongly linked to the colour scheme therefore the content page is still relative to the front cover  however i could improve on the layout on my contents page that it looks more magazine-like rather than a news report . i could add a little more improvements by making the text stand out more  by creating bold text and a more interesting design by adding a puff and the image of what can be won and i could add a more active background such as an image of the college 

using the software such as Photoshop and Indesign weren't difficult for me because of the introduction  task when i was starting of my blog therefore using theses software worked really well for me in the process of making this magazine. However i feel as though i could have developed my idea on the contents page on indesign more because the software has many different feature to make your work look professional. i think that when i start my music magazine i should take that into consideration and also try and take a lot more better quality pictures because in this task my pictures don't look professionally taken. i also want to use a background that doesn't have so much going on therefore the main focus is the text and the cover magazine and the content whilst using colours that compliment the magazine

This is an incomplete  contents pages for practise that was made on indesign, one indesign this was easy to make and move the images around however there's improvement that could be made on the contents.  such as more information that can be and the font could be more interesting . if this was a completed copy there would be images of the college and pictures that connotes a positive  environment
