textual analysis for xxl magazine ( front cover and contents page)

 Three colour scheme: Pink, Green and White
Pink:pink is an urban colour and an harmonious/peaceful, this could connote that kendrick Lamar as an entertainer and musician is an urban artist yet harmonious and peaceful form of artistry even though his main genre is hip hop which can sometimes be seen as an aggressive form of realism and vanity in wealth.
Green: Green is  colour that connotes vibrancy and freshness , this could be a representation of kendrick Lamar's new music that he could brand out , It could have a new sound that he's realising in to hip hop that the audience might listen to in the future and think that the music is vibrant.
White:  White is colour that representing  freshness and something brand new so therefore the connotation  is going to be similar.

Head shot:
This shot could be used  to make the audience feel like they have a closeness with kendrick to see up close and personal  due to the fact that he's looking directly into the camera , It looks like he's  directing addressing the reader.

High key lighting:

 The high light lighting  causes immanent focus on Kendrick showing the stardom or referencing to an upcoming star. 

Page layout :
the way the page is laid out makes over star it's make focus .this is to bring the readers into the magazine. 

• Master head is behind  the cover star ( XXL is a highly recognised magazine therefore the master head doesn't have to be display for the readers to recognise the magazine). the colours of the masterhead is in red and white : the colour red significances power and white significances something fresh and pure , therefore this will suggest to the audience that the magazine is dominating and something that many people haven't seen before.

• The Anchorage : "Kendrick Lamar - In My Own Words" ( Brings the reader straight to into the point and letting the reader know the true story , first hand. )

• Bar code to indicating the price or giving the magazine it's own identification 
•  columns added  on the left side of the page ,more spaced and simple font is used ( key selling points in the columns  celebrity names and things included in the magazine )

the contents pages are separated into two separated sides , the A- side and the B-side . The A-side of the magazine focuses only on the artist kendrick lamar and the B-side of the magazine focuses on the other different features of the magazine . This is a good feature because it allows the audience to have options , for example if a reader is not too interested in kendirck lamar , the have an option to go straight to the B-side rather than flipping through the magazine to find something you may be interested in .

With the A- side of the magazine ,the image is a long shot , this will emphasises the background and reveals more body language of the artist , as a viewer of the magazine , this type of shot gives you an clearerview on who the artist might be for example kendrick isn't dressed as your usual rapper with gold chains and luxury watches and clear to see designer clothing , this will show you that he's an humble artist.

The columns are well organised and they are all constant in font and size . Each columns has a page number ,this is good for the audience because this allows the audience to find what they want to read much more easier.

This representation of the genre of the magazine because of the body language it flows and care -free of the body language and this is seen as an expression of yourself which is what the purpose of the genre is about and how it's usual represented therefore the makes the magazine relevant. 

on the B-side of the magazine focuses more on the main magazine , with this side of the contents page it doesn't have a specfic colour scheme , it's just black and white this could suggest that the side of the magazine can be for anyone . the columns are similar to the A-side of the contents page , however the  numbers for the pages are different because they need a bold and a bright coloured font to make the numbers stand out .  XXL magazine taking a look at their media kit , thier audience is 71%men  therefore the way the model is dressed with a sex appeal would appeal to the magazines main audience. The image is a long shot and the will allow the audience to fully see body language and reflect the image so that the audience can have better idea of what the image is telling them.
